This is a treasure. If you want a peaceful, beautiful place where you will probably be alone, this is for you. If you want to see and hear songbirds, ducks, sand hill cranes, frogs, muskrats, and other wildlife, this is for you.
There are reasons why the Leelanau Conservancy has this area as a preserve – it is special. Please see their site for information about this gem that is easy to get to, but will be hard to leave. http://leelanauconservancy.org/blog/naturalarea/cedar-river-natural-area/
Please keep in mind that from the park along County Road 651 (also known as South Kasson Street) in Cedar to the mouth of the river at Lake Leelanau is 7.2 miles round trip. You need not paddle all the way to Lake Leelanau. You can turn around anywhere along the way if 7.2 miles would be too much.
